raspberry bush care

Hello everyone...I am new to this site and wanted to know if someone could answer the question of how to look after my raspberry plants....We have rented our home in Powell River, BC and it has bushes in the back yard that look very uncared for...Do I need to prune them? And what about all these sucker vines? Where can i find this information for the raspberry bushes and also winterizing the strawberry plants? Thank yu for any information you may have....

Raspberries are very hardy. If you check out catalogues it will say when they produce fruit and pruning. Some produce in the fall which you would cut off the section that held the fruit, not the whole can. Leave a gap for sunlight if you have a lot. Tie them back in a row if you have a lot. Remove suckers and dead canes in the spring. Wash them and let them dry and then freeze them, enjoy in the dead of winter.
Add little compost in spring and fall. They dont need a lot of watering out your way.
