planting backyard vineyard

I'm planting a backyard vineyard on the coast in very fertile wet soil in the winter, and dry in summer. Should I add river rock to the soil to enhance winter drainage when I dig the rows? Also, the pH is at 5.8 or so. Is it imperative to add limestone to buffer. I'll be planting Pinot noir, and either Pinot Gris or Muller Thurgau. Any thoughts out there? Thanks.

Grapes don't like wet feet. Choosing a well drained site is very important. Air drainage is an important consideration as well. Clearly with your low pH buffering will be required but it's sounding like you should possibly look to plant your vineyard elsewhere. How many vines are you going to plant and have you had any experience growing?

Replying to Comment:Only planting 200 vines or so to see if its viable. No choice to change the location now. How much limestone to buffer a quarter acre to reach 6.5? Should I use limestone chips or? I plan to line the bottom layer of rows to be planted and mixed small gravel to improve drainage. Will this work? Little experience.
