Great Wines Start in the Vineyard - Grape Growers of Ontario Announce Cuvee Award of Excellence in Viticulture

St. Catharines, ON (Friday, February 29, 2008): At the 20th Cuvee gala, Grape Growers of Ontario Board Chair, Bill George Jr. and CEO, Debbie Zimmerman along with Kevin Watson, Grape King 2007, are pleased to announce the first ever annual Cuvee Award of Excellence in Viticulture.

Grape Growers of Ontario Chair, Bill George Jr. commented, “The Cuvee Award of Excellence in Viticulture recognizes a grower who promotes excellence in their vineyard practices.” He further says, “World class VQA wines depend on growers who maintain consistent and improved practices in the vineyard to produce high quality grapes.”

Debbie Zimmerman, CEO of the Grape Growers of Ontario states, “Cuvee showcases the best of Ontario VQA wines. The Cuvee Award of Excellence in Viticulture recognizes the importance of the grower and the quality of grapes used in producing Ontario VQA wines which have now gained international acclaim. We believe that it is essential to showcase the grower as great wines start in the vineyard.”

The Grape Growers of Ontario look forward to presenting this first award at the Cuvee 2009 event. Each year the current grape king will present the award at Cuvee.

The Grape Growers of Ontario is the official organization that represents over 600 registered grower members of nearly 15.7 million vines on 17,800 acres in the province’s four viticulture areas: Niagara Peninsula, Pelee Island, Lake
Erie North Shore and Prince Edward County.
