I planted a Concord Grape Vine 8 yrears ago. After 4 years it produced lovely sweet grapes. And has done so until last years when the Stellar Jay Birds cleaned it off completely. Unfortunately this year it hasn't produced much of a crop, In fact really few grapes.
My question is: This years crop as small as it is are not sweet at all. What fertilizer should I be using to help produce more and sweeter grapes?
Or is it something else that I should be doing?
It's on the North/South of the lot and is growing on a trellis.

Duane; Do a soil and petoile analysis with your local feed store if they provide this service and specify for grapes. Some will make special fertilizer mixes for you depending on what is needed specific to your site. The internet has good sites that fully explain winter pruning and proper pruning will have a dramatic effect on your vine production. I start my pruning in the middle of January and finish in March. Covering your grapes with bird netting is a common commercial practice.

Duane; Do leaf thinning of 3 or 4 basal leaves to get the sunlight on your grapes, especially on the side that sees the morning sun. Don't overwater otherwise you will grow cane and grapes that have a vegitable flavor. Did you ever read the book "Sunlight into Wine?" It's a good one and is used in the cirriculum at Okanagan College..
