I am an amatuer wine maker on Vancouver Island, Can anybody help me with a couple of starter vines I can plant now so they have a good start for next year, The vine I am looking for is called Agria, Thanks
If you contact some of the local vineyard that grow agria and ask them for cuttings they will often provide them at a small cost. Perhaps purchase a few bottles of their agria wine at the same time. If you have no luck let me know I have several agria plants comming into their second year and may be able to get cuttings in the spring for you from last years growth. This depends how they make out over the winter and how much of this years cane dies back.
Look up Bert Dunn from Southern Ontario. Fantastic supplier of cuttings and root stocks.
You have national expertise for western grapes at the Pacific Agri-Food Research Center in Summerland, BC. Contact http://www4.agr.gc.ca/AAFC-AAC/display-afficher.do?id=1180620561099&lang=eng
Bert is an excellent supplier. Just remember, if you get Agria from Bert, you'll have to ensure the cuttings/plants are treated and come with a CFIA "movement certificate". Can't move grape plants or materials from Ontario to BC without a movement cert. - see Plant Protection Act. Peter Salonius is in New Brunswisk, also has Agria, no movement restrictions from NB to BC, this may be easier. But as Berry said, you could go to the Summerland research center. Also can try Paul Troop on Salt Spring Island, (google him) has many different varieties, may also have Agria.
Hi, Peter here at Muse winery in N.Saanich. Give me an email @ peter@musewinery.ca as I have two people I can put you in touch with. Cheers,
